Benefits of HTV Printing on Fabric

There are various printing methods to choose from if you aim to create unique custom t-shirts or other bespoke printed products. Among the most popular methods are sublimation printing and HTV or heat transfer. You may have heard of these methods, but you may be unsure which would be the best for your project or business.

What is HTV?

Heat transfer vinyl, commonly called HTV, is a kind of material that features an adhesive, which is activated by the application of heat. It can be cut into whatever shape desired using cutters, scissors, or a die-cutter machine. The cut design can then be transferred to the fabric or t-shirt by using a heat press or an iron.

Once the heat is applied, the adhesive bonds with the fabric and the design is transferred onto the fabric. The design becomes permanently adhered to the fabric after it has cooled.

There are advantages to using HTV. Some of them are:

  • Heat Transfer Vinyl This gives You More Choices

When you use HTV, you have an endless supply of t-shirts or other fabric-based products like totes, hats, and many others because the vinyl is available in numerous colours, finishes, and sizes. You can also create a unique look by layering it onto the material.

Although sublimation prints can be vividly colourful, HTV comes in finishes like sparkle and glitter, glow-in-the-dark, holographic, reflexive, and metallic.

  • It Can Be Used on A Wider Variety of Fabrics

Unlike sublimation printing which can only be used with light-coloured or white fabrics, heat transfer vinyl can be applied to any colour of fabric which allows for more variety.

  • It is the More Economical Option

Heat transfer vinyl is more affordable than sublimation in terms of both the required consumables and equipment. With HTV, the only items needed are the vinyl and a heat press, or you can use an iron. It makes HTV the preferred printing method by beginners, those intending to start a small business, and hobbyists.

If you are thinking of starting a hobby or maybe a small business making custom shirts or other fabric-based products, heat transfer vinyl may be a good option.
