Tips on Choosing the Right Sublimation Paper

This article will tell how to choose the best heat transfer papers in order to get great results upon sublimation. The main thing that can ruin your t-shirt design is improper choice of heat transfer papers. The variety of different Papers in the market makes it very easy for beginners to make mistakes while buying them!  No matter what your budget is, it is not worth buying cheap heat transfer papers. The only key to success in sublimation is to choose the right paper. The major difference between sublimation transfer paper and normal paper is that sublimation paper must be able to release ink easily for image. Otherwise, it will transfer on the final product with strong ink bleeding.

1. Know your Printer

The very first thing you need to know is which type of printer you are using. There are different types of sublimation papers available in the market. Sublimation transfer papers are generally divided into 2 categories, Coated and Uncoated. Most of the popular printers use Coated Papers. Most of the top quality sublimation papers are Coated Paper. However some of the new printers use Uncoated Papers. So you must check the paper description and buy accordingly. 

2. Paper Weight 

The second most important thing is paper weight. Paper weight is basically the thickness of paper. For example, 80 g/m2 means the thickness of paper is 80 grams per square meter. A Thicker Paper will be more durable and resistant to wrinkles. So it is always recommended to choose the heavier papers. 

3. Paper Type

 The third most important thing is paper type. There are two types of sublimation papers, Coated and Uncoated. Most of the good quality sublimation papers are Coated Paper. However some of the new printers use Uncoated Papers. For example, Ricoh and Canon printers use Uncoated Papers. So you must check the paper description and buy accordingly. 

4. Paper Color

 The fourth most important thing is paper color. Sublimation papers are available in different colors but white is most common. But some people prefer to buy other colors like blue, black, green, red etc. 

 5. Paper Surface 

The fifth most important thing is the paper surface. You need to select whether Glossy or Matte. Glossy papers are normally used in most of the printers however some people prefer Matte papers.
