Heat transfer Printing

This is done on a special paper called the transfer paper. Businesses can use the laser printer or standard inkjet printer in order to print on this paper through regular ink. When the paper is placed on the cloth, and a hot iron press is applied, the design sticks onto the fabric. This is termed heat transfer printing. The heat transfer paper could be used on various fabrics, including cotton and textile fabrics. This printing can be done on dark as well as light coloured clothes.

Sublimation printing

This is the latest method of digital printing that has become hugely popular in recent times. In this process, sublimation paper and heat energy are used to print the design on the cloth. This kind of printing should be used on clothes that are at least 85% polyester or more. 

The reason being, polyester fibres open up the pores to allow the dye to settle. You can use a lower configuration fabric, but the colours may get affected.

Sublimation paper

This is a special paper that is exclusively used for sublimation printing. This paper is made using the substrate, a variety of the standard paper. A special coating is added to the paper that allows it to hold the dye of the sublimation ink. This casting includes 5% binder, 35% silica and is based on the paper’s weight. 

Working of sublimation transfer printing

The sublimation printing process does not need the use of liquid. The ink is heated from the solid state onto the sublimation paper and converted directly into the gaseous state. This printing process helps the ink to bond on the heated fabric due to the opened up pores. The open pores allow the gas to seep into the material, providing a printed layout on the clothes.
